The Heart of FUMC is Caring Ministries

"The Church in the heart of Graham" describes not only our location but our calling.  We are a church called to be in ministry with those in need.  The heart of FUMC is our Caring Ministries.  If you want to make a difference in the lives of others, then get involved in some of the many opportunities available to you.

Friendship Meal - This free, hot meal is served family-style for our community friends.  It is held on the last Tuesday of each month in McCree Hall.  If you would like to roll up your sleeves and get involved we have a place for you. In addition to the meal, the evening includes groups singing, and a short devotion.  Different groups in the church prepare the food each month.

Garments of Grace - This wonderful ministry provides children and youth with brand-new clothing, believing that this is a great boost to self-esteem.  Recipients are referred by teachers and community agencies.  The children and youth get to select new clothing and accessories in a store format.  The congregation is encouraged to watch for end-of-the-season bargains to donate to Garments of Grace.

The Glass Slipper Project - This ministry provides youth in the community with clothing and accessories suitable for attending prom or other formal events.

Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry - This ministry provides hand-made quilts to people going through a difficult time in their lives.  Each quilt is lovingly made and then prayed over by the congregation.  Strings of yarn are tied as a tangible symbol of each prayer.

Habitat for Humanity - We are a proud participant in Habitat for Humanity as we join other community groups in building a home each year in Graham.  Construction generally takes place in late spring/early summer and there is something that everyone can do!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors - We participate in local missions through assistance but also through "hands-on" projects.  We share in the annual conference "One Great Day of Missions," build wheel chair ramps, paint houses, mow yards, plant flowers, any number of needs.  Projects are provided so that children, youth, and adults can participate.

FUMC Community Garden - Our community garden supplies fresh seasonal vegetables for the local Food Bank, Friendship Meal, and Our Daily Bread.  Members of the church maintain the garden across the street from the church.

Samaritans - Samaritans provide weekly visits to the home-bound of the church, deliver flowers and a DVD of the worship service from the previous Sunday.  They also provide meals for funerals, work in the community Food Bank and Clothes Closet, provide Thanksgiving food baskets and Christmas outreach, and provide meals and cards during times of illness or personal crisis.

Samaritan Fund - This fund provides financial assistance with utilities, rent, prescriptions, medical and dental expenses, as well as providing funding for wheel chair ramps and small home repairs for those in our community.

Our Daily Bread - This summer weekday program provides lunch for children, youth, and adults who might not otherwise have a hot nutritious noon meal.  In addition to lunch, a sack supper of sandwiches and snacks are provided to take home each day.  There are many opportunities to help with Our Daily Bread from food preparation to serving, cleaning up, and providing transportation.

Mission Trips Abroad - We believe that we are called not only to help our neighbors in the community but also our neighbors around the world.  We strive to be a Global Mission Partner, support foreign missionaries in other countries, and go on mission trips sponsored by our church and our annual conference.  Following the devastating earthquake in Haiti our church was one of the first mission teams to respond to a variety of needs in the village of Mizak.  We are currently sending mission teams to Cosa Rica and Kenya.
